around Keyhaven and Milford on Sea
Hurst Castle is an English Heritage site and is situated at the seaward end of the shingle spit that extends 1.5 miles from Milford-On-Sea. The end of the spit is only three-quarters of a mile from the Isle of Wight and the views from the top of the Tudor castle are spectacular. The castle was built by Henry VIII as one of a chain of coastal fortresses and was completed in 1544. A ferry service runs from Keyhaven to the castle, full details are on their website.
Enjoy café style coffee, pastries or Alex’s renowned cakes or at lunchtime find a range of meze style salads for you to choose from, topped with fish, cheese or meat. Your favourite sandwich can be made up for you to eat in or take out or devour one of Jesse’s legendary Club Sandwiches or homemade soups. Our food is all about the flavour at realistic prices in relaxed and friendly surroundings.
The Gun Inn is a traditional 18th century pub in Keyhaven.
The cosy bar features low beamed ceilings and the large family rooms are full of interesting antiquities. In the winter log fires allow you and your faithful canine companions to warm up with a mulled wine and homemade pie. In the summer we have a large old world walled garden with outside bar, ideal for lazy days in the sun sipping local beer and enjoying a ploughman's.
